Basile replaces Simeone as coach at Racing Club
Former Argentina coach Alfio Basile says he aims to bring success back to Racing Club after being handed a fourth spell in charge of the Buenos Aires side.
The 68-year-old spoke shortly after his appointment on Thursday following the unexpected departure of Diego Simeone, who resigned last week and joined Spanish club Atletico Madrid.
Basile, who won the Argentine title and Copa Libertadores as a Racing player in the 1960s, says he wants to ''make (the club) a champion'' again.
Racing, considered one of Argentina's ''big five'' clubs, finished runner-up to Boca Juniors in the past Apertura tournament under Simeone.
Basile coached Argentina during the 1994 World Cup and his three previous spells as Racing coach were in 1977, 1986-'89 and 1996-'97.
