Barzagli was operated on in Finland by Professor Sakari Orava, and will return to Italy on Wednesday.
Juventus says he will be out of action for approximately three months, missing the start of the season as Antonio Conte's team aims for a fourth successive league title.
Despite the injury, Barzagli made 26 league appearances for Juventus. The 33-year-old also played in all three of Italy's World Cup matches in Brazil.
