Barker pays tribute to Byrne
Crawley manager Richie Barker saluted Nathan Byrne after the youngster had sparked a victory for his side at Carlisle.
Byrne, who joined the Red Devils on loan from Tottenham, scored a brilliant individual goal in the second half before Nicky Adams grabbed a rather fortunate second to send Crawley on the long journey home with three points from a 2-0 win.
Barker said of the opening goal: "Nathan took it like a 20-goal striker. That's his first league goal and it's one he will always remember. It was a hell of a run and he takes some catching once he sets off."
But Barker was honest enough to admit it was not one of his side's best performances.
"We rode our lucky slightly," he said. "We didn't play a great deal of football, but sometimes you have to win when you are not at your best and was one of those days.
"I felt we defended far too deep in the first half and in the second half we tried to get Carlisle playing more in their own half. Now we need to show people we can play at home the way we are doing away."
