Krasimir Balakov says he will replace Marco Kurz as coach at last-place Bundesliga club Kaiserslautern.
The former Bulgaria captain and Stuttgart midfielder said early Thursday he is quitting at Hajduk Split to take over at Kaiserslautern, which is winless in 16 matches.
Balakov told a hastily organized news conference that he accepted the Kaiserslautern job because he believes the club can survive in Germany's top-flight competition.
He says the most important thing is to get to know his new team and prepare for the upcoming match against Freiburg on Saturday.
