Marco van Ginkel fired the visitors in front a minute before the interval, but second-half goals from Pontus Wernbloom, Simon Poulsen and Maarten Martens turned the result on its head. The win takes fourth-placed AZ four points clear of nearest challengers ADO Den Haag, who have a game in hand. Both teams needed time to settle at the DSB Stadion, but the home side had the first real chance after 23 minutes with Kolbeinn Sigthorsson pushing a shot just past the left post. Vitesse almost gifted their opponents a goal three minutes before the break when Jordi Lopez made a mess of clearing a Stijn Schaars corner and saw his mis-kick come back off the crossbar. And the relief turned to jubilation moments later when the visitors took the lead thanks to Van Ginkel, who met a cross from Michihiro Yasuda and planted the ball into the top corner. AZ had to wait until the 64th minute for their equaliser. Rasmus Elm supplied a cross which was flicked on by Sigthorsson to Wernbloom, who fired home a low shot from 12 yards out. But that brought the home side to life and they took the lead 10 minutes from time when another cross from Elm was cleared by Vitesse defender Slobodan Rajkovic to the feet of Poulsen, allowing the Danish winger to find the bottom left corner. Poulsen then turned provider four minutes later, breaking through the opposition backline before laying the ball off to Martens, who settled the contest with a left-footed volley.
