Marseille forward Andre Ayew is facing two months out after it was confirmed he requires surgery on a knee injury he suffered while playing for Ghana on Tuesday.

Ayew left Ghana's World Cup qualifier - which they lost 2-1 on the night but won 7-3 on aggregate - in the 55th minute after feeling pain in his left knee. Further examinations upon his return to Marseille have found a meniscal tear, the club said in a statement.

Marseille said on its website that medical tests revealed that Ayew has a slight tear in his knee and will undergo surgery on Monday. The 23-year-old is scheduled to have an operation on Monday, after which it is estimated he will be sidelined for eight weeks.

The striker is scheduled to miss Marseille's final Champions League group matches against Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund later this month.
