Wenger, who saw the Gunners come perilously close to going off the rails at the start of the season, has now overseen five wins in six matches in all competitions and believes the confidence is coming back. Ramsey, a late substitute at the Stade Velodrome, did his part to contribute to the growing feelgood factor with an expertly taken finish for the only goal of a match that looked destined for stalemate. Three points instead see Arsenal leapfrog OM and they will now be strong favourites to progress as Group F winners. "We've made a little step forward but we have to be humble," said Wenger. "We are a team who must continue to grow and we have to show that. The game at home to Marseille will be very important. "Yes, this will help us with our confidence but if you look back at the last six games you will see we only have one defeat. "We are slowly getting there and tonight will help." Wales captain Ramsey has been struggling with a hamstring strain and Wenger, having lost Jack Wilshere to injury this season after placing a heavy workload on the midfielder last term, opted not to play him from the start. He hinted he would like to continue treating his match-winner with kid gloves but was delighted to have him on the pitch when the key chance came. "I do not want to overplay him," said Wenger. "I've seen in my mind that he has been injured for a year and that Wilshere played a lot last year (and is now injured). I try to be a bit more cautious when I can. "But it was a great finish. When you see Aaron Ramsey in front of goal you know you have a good chance to score. He is a goalscorer." Marseille boss Didier Deschamps acknowledged his side had run out of legs in the second half but was frustrated to see his side surrender the points right at the end. He said: "We are very disappointed to lose this game. We had a warning right before the goal with Robin van Persie. "I was angry because I had warned them. One point would have been good for us. "It was a game of not many opportunities and this is cruel and disappointing for us. "It was more difficult for us in the second half. Arsenal had more possession and we lost the ball too easily. "We put a lot of effort in in the first half and we couldn't recreate that in the second half." One blight for Wenger on an otherwise satisfactory night's work in his homeland was an injury to Carl Jenkinson. The summer signing from Charlton has been covering at right-back for Bacary Sagna after the latter broke his leg, while Kieran Gibbs is also out with a stomach muscle problem. Johan Djourou came on out of position at full-back when Jenkinson hobbled off, and Wenger could be short if the news is not good. "Jenkinson has a knee problem," said Wenger. "He overstretched his knee and we will check that tomorrow."
