Australia to host Serbia in football friendly

Australia will play Serbia in an international friendly on June 7 in Melbourne, this time with much less on the line that their last meeting at the 2010 World Cup.
Australia beat Serbia 2-1 in a Group D match at Nelspruit, South Africa when a 2-2 draw would have sent the European side through to the second round. Serbia beat Germany 1-0 but lost 1-0 to Ghana.
Australia was beaten 4-0 by Germany and drew 1-1 with Ghana, also failing to get past the opening stage.
Serbia is No. 16 in the current FIFA world rankings and Australia 20th.

Australia coach Holger Osieck said Thursday he was pleased to be playing against a team of the caliber of Serbia in the leadup to the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
