Toluca lost 2-0 to Jaguares on Friday to end its undefeated start to the season and dropped to second place, two points behind Tijuana. Third placed Leon lost 2-1 against Chivas and is six points off the lead.
In other results, Pachuca defeated Morelia 3-2, America beat Santos Laguna 2-0, Tigres won 2-0 against Cruz Azul, Monterrey overcame Puebla 3-2, Pumas lost 1-0 against San Luis and Atlas drew 0-0 with Queretaro.
Colombia's Duvier Riascos opened the scoring for Tijuana in the 51st minute with a left footed finish into corner of the net before Argentina's Alfredo Moreno was left with an easy tap a minute later to extend the lead. Esteban Paredes got one back for Atlante with three minutes of the game remaining.
Tijuana has now won four of its last five league games.
Jorge Rodriguez scored two second-half goals for Jaguares' win over Toluca.
Rafael Marquez Lugo curled in a free kick from 25 yards (meters) in second-half injury time to complete a comeback for Chivas against Leon.
Chivas played most the match with 10 players after Xavier Baez was sent off in the 33rd minute, but it took Leon until the 75th to break through when Jose Vazquez converted a penalty.
Leon also went down to 10 players five minutes later, with Jonny Magallon sent off. Chivas equalized in the 82nd when Jorge Enriquez headed in from a corner.
Felix Borja scored in the 15th and 25th for Pachuca, before a deflected shot from Carlos Morales in the 35th made it 2-1.
U.S international Jose Torres restored Pachuca's two goal advantage with a free kick from the right that beat everybody and nestled in the far corner of the net.
Carlos Ochoa pulled one back for Morelia in the 74th.
Raul Jimenez scored from close range for America against defending champion Santos Laguna in the 49th and Ecuadorean international Christian Benitez headed in the second in the 74th.
Tigres inflicted Cruz Azul's first defeat of the season with Spaniard Luis Garcia scoring both goals either side of halftime.
Mexico international Angel Reyna got the winning goal for Monterrey in the 75th. His team was 2-0 up at halftime thanks to goals from Cesar Delgado and Aldo de Nigris, but Diego de Buen pulled one back for Puebla in the 52nd and Isaac Romo equalized in the 70th.
A Luis Angel Mendoza goal in the 56th handed San Luis the victory against Pumas on Sunday, while relegation contenders Atlas and Queretaro failed to convert their chances in Saturday's game
