Arsenal star Oxlade-Chamberlain ruled out of Euro 2016
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been ruled out for up to two months with a fresh knee injury, says Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
The 22 year-old England midfielder, who has not played for the Gunners since injuring his knee against Barcelona in the Champions League in February, will now miss out on Euro 2016.
"There is no chance," Wenger said, when asked if Oxlade-Chamberlain could make Roy Hodgson's squad for this summer's tournament in France. England's first Group B game is against Russia in Marseille on Saturday, June 11.
"I had a conversation with Alex and with our medical team and they told me he will back in July. He was out for a while and was not overloaded with games.
"You want a guy of 22 years of age to go to the European Championships, so it is very sad."
Wenger also revealed that Oxlade-Chamberlain was close to returning for Arsenal before picking up the new injury on Monday.
"It's very sad because he was physically quite ready and sharp in training," Wenger said.
"He had one week training and was planning to play on Tuesday night [for Arsenal's reserves] and got injured on Monday morning."
The news comes as a major blow to Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was also ruled out of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil through injury.
The England international has struggled for fitness this season and was sidelined earlier in November with a hamstring injury.
Wenger will now be without the midfielder for Arsenal's remaining two Premier League fixtures, away to Manchester City on Super Sunday and at home to Aston Villa the following weekend.
