Boca Juniors picked up a badly needed victory on Sunday, defeating Huracan 3-0 to inch up in the Argentine Clausura standings.
Boca took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when Cristian Chavez chipped the ball home on a perfect pass from Pablo Mouche. Nicolas Colazo added a second in the 46th, and Martin Palermo capped the scoring in the 83rd. Boca improved to 14 points, seven behind leaders Velez Sarsfield.
Also on Sunday, Arsenal and Gimnasia drew 1-1, Argentinos Juniors beat Racing 2-1 and Tigre defeated San Lorenzo 1-0. San Lorenzo coach Ramon Diaz resigned after the loss.
Boca's first goal was textbook with Martin Palermo passing perfectly to Mouche, who found Chavez in front of the net. Colazo clinched the victory scoring at the start of the second half with a 15-meter (yard) shot. Palermo added a third from short range in the 82nd after missing several chances earlier in the match. It was the veteran forward's first goal of the season.
Boca played without midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme, who injured an abdominal muscle in practice and is also expected to miss the next match against Independiente. The former Barcelona star has been frequently injured since undergoing left-knee surgery a year ago.
Mauro Obolo gave Arsenal a 1-0 lead in the 32nd with Gimnasia's Gillermo Barros equalizing in the 66th.
Tigre picked up its victory when San Lorenzo defender Jonathan Ferrari scored an own-goal in the 4th minute. San Lorenzo coach Ramon Diaz resigned after the loss with club having just 15 points from 11 matches.
Argentinos Juniors rallied for a 2-1 victory over Racing. Teofilo Gutierrez gave Racing the lead in the 18th, but Santiago Salcedo scored for Argentinos in the 58th before Gonzalo Prosperi got the winner in the 78th.
Lanus faces Olimpo on Monday.
Velez lead a tightly contested Clasura with 21 points followed by Godoy Cruz with 20, River Plate with 19 and Banfield and Argentinos Juniors with 18.
