Pardew's side currently sit third in the Premier League table after an unbeaten start to the season, yet none of his players were called up by Fabio Capello for the recent friendlies against Spain and Sweden. "Steven Taylor would be the one," Pardew told TalkSPORT. "We're talking about a player who was going to be England's centre-half but who got injuries and lost his way a little bit in terms on continuity, which is what you need to get in the England team. "But he's been fit for almost the whole year since I came to Newcastle and has been absolutely outstanding. "He's a player who could walk into the England team and play to the level Gary Cahill did (against Sweden). If England come calling he won't let them down. "He's super confident, but not in a brash way. He has good belief and the key thing is he's not embarrassed by pace, and at international level that is the key element you need at the back, more so than height and aerial power. "You need speed up and down the side of the box and he's very good in those areas."
