America name Matosas as coach, agree to terms on two-year deal
Club America has continued to ring the changes following last Sunday's Liga MX Apertura 2014 title by confirming Gustavo Matosas as the club's new coach on Wednesday.
The Uruguayan won the Apertura 2013 and Clausura 2014 with Club Leon, before resigning after La Fiera failed to make the playoffs last season.
The 47-year-old comes into Las Aguilas on a two-year deal and his first match in charge will be against Leon on Jan. 10.
Matosas replaces outgoing Antonio Mohamed, who had a rocky relationship with the club's hierarchy and whose contract wasn't renewed at the end of the season, despite bringing home the historic 12th title. The Argentine has expressed his desire to return to work in Mexico.
The new Club America coach got Leon promoted and won back-to-back titles playing flowing, attacking soccer and made La Fiera perhaps the best club in the Liga MX to watch.
America has already confirmed that forwards Darwin Quintero and Dario Benedetto will be joining the club next season. Alongside Oribe Peralta, Las Aguilas appear to be greatly strengthened in the attacking third.
Midfielder Cristian Pellerano has also signed so far in this offseason, as well as left back Miguel Samudio.
