Reigning champion America moved back into first position in Mexico's top division this weekend, defeating Chiapas 3-1 on Saturday as previous leader Morelia slipped to a 3-1 loss against Monterrey on Friday.
In Sunday's game, Toluca scored three first half goals and won 4-0 against Queretaro to improve to fifth in round 11 of matches.
In other results this weekend, Leon went into second - level on points with America - with a 2-1 win over Chivas, Santos Laguna drew 1-1 with Pachuca, Atlas drew 3-3 with Veracruz, Atlante won 1-0 against Pumas, Tigres and Puebla tied 0-0 and Tijuana drew 0-0 with Cruz Azul.
Argentine Rubens Sambueza opened the scoring for America in the 19th minute, cutting in from the left flank and lofting a shot over the `keeper from the edge of the area. Miguel Layun added America's second from long range in the 51st, before Raul Jimenez netted the third in the 69th.
Chiapas' only goal came four minutes later via Carlos Ochoa.
Luis Guillermo Madrigal scored Monterrey's first and second in the 50th and 56th minute, but Colombian international Aldo Leao cut the lead in the 67th with a strike from 25 yards (meters).Emilio Garcia drove in a shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 77th to re-establish Monterrey's two-goal advantage.
Raul Nava netted in the 5th and 32nd for Toluca, with Isaac Brizuela adding the third in the 33rd and Paulo da Silva wrapping up the scoring.
A spectacular overhead kick from Mexico international Luis Montes in the 37th proved to be decisive against Chivas. Dario Burbano had given Leon in the 10th, with Miguel Ponce bringing Chivas back into the game with a goal in the 52nd.
Eduardo Herrera tapped into an open net to equalize for Santos Laguna in second half injury time, canceling out Fernando Cavenaghi's headed goal in the 24th.
Edson Rivera leveled in the fifth minute of stoppage time for nine-man Atlas. Angel Reyna opened the scoring for Veracruz with a penalty in the 29th, before Omar Bravo equalized in the 37th.
Goals from Cristian Martinez and Jesus Sanchez for Veracruz early in the second half seemed to put the game beyond Atlas, but Matias Vuoso struck back in the 76th, before Rivera got the equalizer. Atlas' Flavio Santos had been shown a red card in the 20th, with Lucas Ayala sent off in the 85th.
Atlante got its first win of the season when Hector Morales netted in the 92nd against Pumas.
Tigres dominated possession against Puebla, but lacked the cutting edge, while Cruz Azul defended stoutly to hold on for its scoreless draw against Tijuana.
On Sunday, Raul Nava scored twice in Toluca's 4-0 thrashing of Queretaro
Nava scored in the fifth and 34th minutes before Isaac Brizuela added the third before the break.
Paulo Da Silva wrapped up the win with his 82nd minute score as Toluca closed the gap on fourth-placed Queretaro to a single point.
