Bordeaux and France captain Alou Diarra was issued a six-match ban on Thursday for shoving a referee in the chest during a French league match last month.

Diarra will miss only another three matches, as he already served three games of the ban since he was provisionally suspended on Oct. 21.

Diarra was shown a yellow card by referee Wilfried Bien in the second half of the 1-0 win at Auxerre, and reacted by pushing Bien with both hands.

Bien responded with a second yellow and the 29-year-old Diarra, who has captained France in three of coach Laurent Blanc's five games in charge, was sent off.

As he was walking off the field, Diarra then turned back, walked over to Bien and apologized profusely.
