Xabi Alonso trained normally with Spain on Monday, boosting his chances of being available for Tuesday's World Cup second-round match against Portugal.

Alonso sprained his right ankle in a 2-1 win over Chile on Friday. The Real Madrid midfielder trained with the European champions at Green Point Stadium, although he appeared to still be bothered by the injury as he gingerly hopped during a training drill trying to keep the pressure off the sensitive foot.

``He trained well,'' coach Vicente del Bosque said. ``But I can't say much about his condition since I can say that he's good today and tomorrow his ankle swells up again. So we'll see.''

Fernando Torres has overcome a slight muscle injury to his right leg and is likely to feature in the match.

``He's fresh and will play better tomorrow,'' Del Bosque said of the Liverpool striker, who has looked off-form in South Africa after coming off knee surgery.

Spain will be without backup center back Raul Albiol for Tuesday's game because of a right ankle injury.
