Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez will miss the next six to eight weeks after injuring his right thigh in Barcelona's 2-2 draw at Real Sociedad on Saturday.
The Catalan club says its new signing has torn a muscle after pulling up during the first half against Sociedad and being replaced by David Villa.
Further tests will be carried out Sunday to determine the extent of the injury.
Barcelona paid Italian team Udinese ?26 million ($37 million) this summer to sign the Chilea international.
