Pablo Gabas scored from a free kick in the first half to give Costa Rica's Alajuelense a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday in Group A of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Gabas' left-footed strike went into the top corner of the net from 30 yards (meters) out in the 28th minute.

A Galaxy strong lineup - including David Beckham, Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan - shared possession evenly with Alajuelense, but the Costa Ricans had more goalscoring opportunities.

U.S. international Donovan had an early chance in the 4th minute, but pushed his shot wide of the post after Alajuelense keeper Patrick Pemberton spilled a long range shot.

In Wednesday's Group B game, Carlos Pavon scored twice to give Real Espana of Honduras a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids.

Real Espana and Colorado now both have four points, while Mexico's Santos Laguna and El Salvador's Metapan, both on six points, play Thursday.

In Group C, FC Dallas lost 2-0 to Mexican side Pumas after Eduardo Herrera and David Izazola scored late goals, both set up by Carlos Orrantia.

After four games each in Group C, Pumas and Dallas have seven points, Toronto has six and Panama's Tauro has two. Two rounds remain in the group stage.
