Ajax signs Theo Janssen from FC Twente

Newly crowned Dutch league champion Ajax says it has signed Netherlands midfielder Theo Janssen from FC Twente on a two-year contract.

Janssen, a creative midfielder and free kick specialist, scored 13 goals in 30 matches for Twente this season as the club won the Dutch Cup and finished second in the league.

Ajax did not release financial details of Monday's transfer deal for the 29-year-old Janssen, who was chosen as the Dutch league's player of the year.

The Amsterdam club beat Twente 3-1 on May 15 to win its 30th league title and secure a place in next season's Champions League. Janssen scored Twente's only goal.

Ajax coach Frank de Boer was keen to sign Janssen to add experience and grit to his young squad.
