Defending champion Ajax beat Roda JC Kerkrade 3-0 in Amsterdam in the first round of the Eredivisie, with goals from Ricardo van Rhijn, Viktor Fischer and Siem de Jong.

Ajax has substantially the same squad as last season and is favored to retain its title under coach Frank de Boer.

PSV Eindhoven, last season's runner-up, won at ADO Den Haag 3-2 in a match where ADO captain Danny Holla scored for both sides.

Feyenoord got off to a poor start Sunday, losing 2-1 at PEC Zwolle. Mateusz Klich scored first for the hosts, but Feyenoord's Ruben Schaken equalized in the 87th.

Guyon Fernandez - on loan from Feyenoord - scored the winner for Zwolle in injury time.
