Brazilian striker Adriano has ruptured his left Achilles tendon and will need surgery that will sideline him for five months.

The former Inter Milan and Roma striker was hurt during a light practice session on Tuesday, and doctors scheduled surgery for Wednesday.

Adriano signed for Corinthians in March and had been recovering from a shoulder injury.

He was expected to make his debut with the Sao Paulo club in May at the start of the Brazilian league.
