Addicks suffer Wiggins blow

Charlton defender Rhoys Wiggins faces up to eight weeks on the sidelines after suffering a double fracture to his foot.

The left-back fell akwardly during the Addicks' Championship defeat at home to Crystal Palace last Friday and may require surgery.

"Rhoys has suffered two fractured metatarsals on his right foot," said Charlton physio Erol Umut. "We will monitor him in the ensuing days to decide whether he needs an operation. Based on the injury, I would estimate he could be out for around two months."

Wiggins played the most minutes for Charlton last season as they clinched promotion from League One, having moved from Bournemouth in July 2011.

The Wales U21 international featured in every minute of the 45 League One games he contested last season, missing the penultimate game of the season at Preston North End when he was rested.

"He's an important player for us, and it's a shame that he had to come off against the team where he started," said Charlton boss Chris Powell after Friday's game.

"But if Rhoysy goes off, then he is definitely hurt, because he fights through and normally plays through the pain barrier. It doesn't look a good one for him."

Charlton are already without injured duo Matt Taylor (foot) and Andy Hughes (Achilles), but goalkeeper Nick Pope has returned to training after a knee problem.
