Abidal claims Bayern interest

Eric Abidal says former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola is keen to add him to the squad he has inherited at Bayern Munich.

Guardiola, who worked with Abidal during their days together at Camp Nou, is the man who will succeed Jupp Heynckes at the helm of Treble-winning Bayern.

There would appear to be little wrong with a side which won the Bundesliga, German Cup and UEFA Champions League in 2012/13, but fresh faces will be drafted in this summer.

Abidal claims he is among those who could be heading to the Allianz Arena, with the experienced French full-back having been released by Barca after they opted against offering him a new contract.

The 33-year-old, who returned to competitive action in April are undergoing a liver transplant, told Telefoot: "Guardiola knows my situation and he would be delighted to have me on his team.

"But the director and the chairman of Bayern have their words on the matter too.

"I would be pleased to join Bayern. I have a very good relationship with Franck Ribery. Bayern is among the best in Europe.

"Everything is possible. Do I have a preference? I don't. But Bayern would be good."

Pressed further on where his future lies, Abidal added: "I don't know where I'll be playing next season yet.

"But the most important thing is to have options, such as Monaco. This is a move that would allow me to go full circle in my career."
