Abby Wambach misses NWSL season-opener due to fractured orbital bone
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Abby Wambach was ruled out from playing in the Western New York Flash's NWSL season-opener at Washington because of a fractured orbital bone below her left eye.
The Flash said Wambach sustained the injury during the United States women's national team's 3-0 win over China at San Diego on Thursday. The injury was confirmed when Wambach rejoined the Flash for their game Sunday.
On Friday, Wambach took to Twitter and revealed the extent of her injury to her legion of followers. "You never know how much you take for grated your eye sight," said the former University of Florida standout on Twitter. "All is good though and I'm gonna have a solid shiner!!"
