Yankees make offer to Lee; decision expected this weekend

The Cliff Lee sweepstakes is heading toward the finish line.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal,citing a major leaguesource, saidLee will decide on his free-agent destination before the end of this weekend.

Although the source said Lee has no favorites, the Yankees made a formal offer on Wednesdayto Lee's agent Darek Braunecker that will be tough to beat.Yankees general manager Brian Cashman toldThe New YorkPost that the deal is for sixseasons at a price between $137.5 and $150 million, which wouldguarantee Lee an average salaryof at least $22.9 million per season.

The Rangers also met with Lee's agents on Wednesday, with GM Jon Daniels declining to say whether they made a formal offer, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Cashman informed the Post that Braunecker told him that Lee wasn't close to making a decision.
