CINCINNATI -- Freshman Kamall Richards will transfer from Xavier, the school announced Friday. Richards, a 6-6 forward from Brooklyn, played in seven games for the Musketeers this season before tearing the ACL in his left knee.

Richards will have to sit out a year before he is eligible to play but he's going to need that time to rehabilitate his injury.

"We wish Kamall the best and hope he finds success beyond Xavier University," said Xavier head coach Chris Mack in a press release. "The decision will allow Kamall to get fully healthy in his sit out year so that he can make the type of impact he wants to at the Division I level."

Xavier returned the NCAA tournament this season after a one-year absence but lost to North Carolina State, 74-59, in the First Four play-in game at Dayton to finish the season 21-13. Richards was one of five freshmen on this season's roster. Guards Myles Davis and Brandon Randolph and forward Jalen Reynolds saw significant minutes and will be expected to play bigger roles next season.
