Women's basketball signs class of 5
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona women's basketball coach Niya Butts announced the signing of five players to national letters of intent: Guards JaLea Bennett of Grand Prairie, Texas; Taryn Griffey of Seattle; Charise Holloway of Tracy, Calif.; Cherise Harris of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; and Chy Cunningham of Paris (Texas) Junior College.
“Overall, we think this class has been pretty good,” Butts said. “We are bringing in some talented young ladies and they are going to be ready to play immediately. They have been working hard, they know the value of good work ethic and I think that’s the thing that is going to set them apart from the other freshmen in the country.”
Griffey, 5-7, the daughter of baseball star Ken Griffey Jr. and sister of Arizona football player Trey Griffey, was the Florida Player of the Year as a sophomore at Dr. Phillips High School. She's ranked as the nation's 88th best recruit by ESPN Hoopgurlz.
