MINNEAPOLIS -- Count Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor among the masses who agree with NBA commissioner Adam Silver's decision to drop the hammer hard on one of Taylor's counterparts.
Shortly after Silver announced he's banning Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life, Taylor issued a statement saying he stands "firmly in full support of the swift and impactful action" taken. Silver said an investigation by NBA lawyers found Sterling made racist comments during a recorded conversation that was released over the weekend.
Sterling is now barred from attending any NBA games or practices, being present at any Clippers office or facility and participating in any business or player personnel decisions involving the team. He received a $2.5 million fine, the maximum amount allowed by NBA bylaws.
Silver plans to try to force Sterling to sell the Clippers.
"(Silver's) leadership and direction in this matter is completely appropriate and appreciated by the Timberwolves organization," Taylor continued in his response. "We stand unified with Commissioner Silver today and reaffirm our organization's zero tolerance approach to the type of reprehensible behavior which caused this action."
In order to remove Sterling from his position, Silver would require at least a three-quarters vote from the league's board of governors, for which Taylor currently serves as interim chairman.
Taylor, 72, has been the Timberwolves' principal owner since 1995.
