Did you hear that? Those are the "Coach O" chants singing loudly from the USC faithful.
It seems like he never left. The door was supposed to be shut last week when Steve Sarkisian announced Bo Davis accepted a position as USC's defensive line coach.
Plans change. Davis has had a change of heart. Sarkisian noted "family reasons" as the reason Davis has withdrawn his commitment to USC and will now join the Alabama staff instead under head coach Nick Saban and newly hired offensive coordinator, former USC head coach Lane Kiffin.
"We wish Bo and his family the best of Luck," Sarkisian said in a statement. "He is a good coach.
"We will move forward and find a great coach for our defensive line."
Re-enter Ed Orgeron yet again. After USC's win in the Las Vegas Bowl last month, Sarkisian said he would reach out to Orgeron one more time in hopes that he would re-think leaving and return to the USC campus as a member of his staff.
Sarkisian referred to Orgeron as a "great Trojan" and said Orgeron left USC abruptly during an "emotional time" after he learned he would not be retained as the school's head coach.
Last week, Sarkisian announced his full-time staff complete with Davis joining the team as defensive line coach and not Orgeron.
Orgeron served two stints as a USC assistant from 1998-2004 and again from 2010-2013. In eight games as interim head coach last season, Orgeron led the Trojans to a 6-2 record, including a win over then-No. 4 Stanford at the Coliseum.
The student body rallied around the interim head coach with the Cajun drawl. The USC Trojan Marching Band even capped off the Las Vegas Bowl win with the "Coach O" chant that was heard often during the regular season. The band also played "Stand Up and Get Crunk" by the Ying Yang Twins -- a song heard often at New Orleans Saints games -- as a homage to Orgeron.
Multiple USC players said they played the Las Vegas Bowl in honor of Orgeron and expressed their love for their former coach by writing "Coach O" on their tape for that game.
Upon leaving, Orgeron expressed his desire to become a head coach. There hasn't been much traction in that direction for the 2014 season.
With Davis now headed to Tuscaloosa, there's room for Orgeron again at USC.
