Johan Franzen will miss at least the next week.
The Red Wings placed Franzen on injured reserve Thursday, one day after he missed the 3-2 win in Calgary with an upper-body injury.
"I guess he didn't feel good on the plane," Wings coach Mike Babcock said of the flight from Edmonton to Calgary.
Franzen, 35, has seven goals and 15 assists in 33 games and is a team-worst minus-12.
Wings general manager Ken Holland thinks Franzen might have taken a hit from Edmonton's Rob Klinkhammer in Tuesday night's game that led to the problem.
The Wings have recalled Teemu Pulkkinen from the Grand Rapids (AHL) Griffins.
Pulkkinen leads the AHL with 20 goals and is second in the league with 39 points in 33 games.
Pulkkinen, 23, also extended his goal streak to eight games in Wednesday night's 3-2 victory over the Charlotte Checkers.
That tied a franchise record set by Donald MacLean when he was MVP in the 2005-06 season.
It's the longest goal streak in the AHL since Drayson Bowman also scored in eight straight in the 2012-13 season.
Pulkkinen and defenseman Xavier Ouellet, currently with the Wings, were recently selected for the AHL All-Star Classic, which will take place Jan. 25-26 in Utica, NY.
Pulkkinen did not record a point in three games with the Wings last season.
