Williams named court coach for U.S. U-19 training camp
Marquette coach Buzz Williams has been named one of the three court coaches for the 2013 USA Basketball Men's U19 World Championship Team training camp and will assist the team's coaching staff during the camp held from June 14-19.
Ed Cooley of Providence and Tim Ryan from the College of Central Florida will join Williams as court coaches at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Close to 25 players are expected to attend, as the staff will use the camp to select the 12-man team for competition.
University of Florida coach Billy Donovan will lead the team at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship from June 27-July 7 in Prague, Czech Republic, with VCU coach Shaka Smart and Gonzaga coach Mark Few serving as assistants.
"It's an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to represent the program while coaching with USA Basketball this summer," Williams said in a statement released by USA Basketball. "I am really looking forward to serving as a court coach, while at the same time working with some of not only the top players in the country, but the best coaches as well."
Williams' commitment will include one practice session on June 14, two on June 15 and another on June 16. The court coaches will then depart training camp with the finalists from the team being announced at that time.
