Wildcats report (11.30): Hall making an impact

TUCSON -- A Tucson kid is playing his best football of the season, just in time for the Arizona-Arizona State rivalry game.
Sophomore safety Adam Hall is kind of the Wildcats' answer to Sun Devils' linebacker Vontaze Burfict -- young, talented, hard-hitting ... and volatile.
Fans on each side can argue the merits of certain personal foul calls -- Hall had two such penalties on one drive at Oregon last week -- but Arizona coach Mike Stoops left little doubt about this:
"He likes to hit," he said.
Hall has been a free safety/nickelback, getting ample time in whatever role he plays. He has 47 tackles -- fourth-best on the team -- and is tied for the team lead with two interceptions.
Nobody ever questioned the athletic ability of Hall, a Parade All-American from Tucson's Palo Verde High School, where he was a star on offense and defense. He's now catching on to the mental part of the game.
"Adam has stepped up and has really become a factor on our defense," Stoops said.
"Adam is starting to get a good feel of what we're doing; his assignments are becoming clearer to him. He's being able to play faster -- and he's an aggressive player as it is."
So aggressive that Stoops doesn't want to always see Hall lead with his shoulder as he launches into a tackle. Not only can that lead to a penalty -- one of Hall's personal foul penalties last week was what the official thought was a helmet-to-helmet hit --
