Wildcats closing in on top-10 recruiting class
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Another recruiting season means another top recruiting class for Sean Miller and Arizona.
The early signing period began Wednesday and runs through Nov. 20.
As it stands right now, Scout.com rates Miller's class of 2014 just outside the top 10 at No. 12.
Last year, the Wildcats finished in the top four in recruiting, and in 2012 it was in the top three. When the dust settles with the class of 2014, this one could be near the top, too. It's up for debate on whether it's at the top in the Pac-12 with Stanford right up there at No. 11, according to Scout.com.
Nationally, it could depend on Stanley Johnson, a 6-foot-6 forward from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei.
Johnson, rated as the seventh best prospect by Scout.com, won't announce where he's going until Friday afternoon. He has taken official visits to Arizona, Kentucky and USC.
Miller continued his connection to Las Vegas' Findlay Prep, where he found power forward Craig Victor, one of the better forwards in the country. Victor is 6-8, 225 pounds and comes from the school both Nick Johnson and Brandon Ashley attended. He's rated No. 17 overall by Scout.com.
Miller also is expected to sign 5-9 point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright out of Los Angeles, who is a bit undersized but a dogged defender who has a strong basketball IQ. He's rated No. 50 by Scout.com
Arizona last month also picked up a commitment from 6-3 shooting guard Kadeem Allen, a junior college transfer from Hutchinson, Kan.
Coaches cannot comment on commits until a letter of intent is signed.
Miller said earlier this week he expects to sign anywhere to from four to five recruits for next year. That would include the regular signing period in the spring.
