Wild unveil new road look for 2013-14 season
The Minnesota Wild plan to make a statement on the road this season -- with their look and performance.
The team unveiled a new white road uniform on Sunday at the Minnesota state fair, going with a classic look with features similar to the Wild's home red and green uniforms, but sticking with the Wild logo prominently in the middle.
Minnesota displayed the new sweaters Sunday with longtime forward Stephane Veilleux and one of the offseason's big acquisitions, young forward Nino Niederreiter in attendance to demonstrate the look.
"It was important for our organization to maintain the primary Wild mark on the new road sweater," Vice President of Brand Marketing John Maher said in a release. "We feel the theme of the white jersey fits well into our family of jerseys and wanted this sweater to have a unique look instead of being a reverse of our existing red and green jerseys."
The new white road jersey still features a large Wild logo in the middle of the sweater, but with altered sleeves and striping. The new look also includes a classic lace-up collar, similar to the red home sweater that was unveiled in 2003 and the forest green sweater the team started using in 2009.
The striping is similar to the team's alternate green sweater, with forest green stripes and also green adorning the shoulder with the Wild's circle crest. The use of the "Iron Range" red has been minimized and is still used in numbering, which takes more of a classic look as well.
Minnesota had not undergone a major change with its road uniform since the team's debut in 2000. The only change the team had made was to the shoulder patch in 2010.
The Wild will debut the new look in their first preseason game on Sept. 19 at Winnipeg. The team incorporated feedback from season-ticket holders throughout the 18-month design process.
