Wild place Spurgeon on IR; recall Blum, activate Folin
Injuries have forced the Minnesota Wild to shuffle their defense.
Minnesota placed Jared Spurgeon on injured reserve Saturday and recalled Jonathon Blum from Iowa of the American Hockey League. The Wild also activated Christian Folin from injured reserve and reassigned Justin Falk to Iowa.
Spurgeon suffered an upper-body injury in Thursday's home game against San Jose when he hit the boards hard. In nine games this season, Spurgeon has two goals and four assists, including four points in the last five games. He leads Minnesota with 25 blocked shots.
The Wild host the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.
Folin, 23, has missed the past five games with an illness. He has four shots and five penalty minutes in three games this season.
Blum ranks third on Iowa and first among defensemen with five points (one goal, four assists) in seven games this season. Blum had one assist and 11 shots in 15 games with Minnesota last season.
Falk had a plus-1 rating and two shots on goal in two games with the Wild after being recalled on Tuesday.
