Todd Richards mentioned during a recent Wild home stand that wins were becoming necessary. Western Conference foes were already forming a pack in front of his team, lining up in playoff position and clogging the funnel on the entry to the second season.
That was a few weeks ago.
After Thursday's home loss, this one to a sub-.500 Ottawa Senators team by a 3-1 count, Minnesota has not made great progress statistically or in the standings.
In other words, going forward, games such as Thursday's -- with its missed opportunities and difficulty in responding to adversity -- must be kept to a minimum.
