Jonathon Blum and Jordan Schroeder are both returning to Minnesota, even though their returns are from different locations.
Blum, one of the team's restricted free agents, agreed to terms with the Minnesota Wild on a one-year contract, while former University of Minnesota and Vancouver Canucks center Jordan Schroeder agreed to terms on a two-year contract. The Wild announced the moves Friday evening. Multiple reports said the contracts were two-way deals.
Blum, 25, had one assist in 15 games with Minnesota last season and was one of five NHL restricted free agents for the Wild. Blum, a defenseman, is the first restricted free agent to agree to a deal. Nino Niederreiter, Jason Zucker, Justin Fontaine and Darcy Kuemper are also restricted free agents. Fontaine filed for arbitration rights earlier.
Blum spent most of last season with the Iowa Wild, the team's affiliate in the American Hockey League. With Iowa, Blue had seven goals and 22 assists in 54 games. He was also named Iowa's Man of the Year for his contributions to the Des Moines community.
Blum has seven goals and 16 assists in 106 career NHL games with Minnesota and the Nashville Predators, who made him a first-round draft pick in 2007.
Schroeder, 23, was a first-round draft pick by Vancouver in 2009 out of the University of Minnesota. A native of Prior Lake, Minn., Schroeder had three goals and three assists in 25 games for the Canucks last season. The 5-foot-9 center has six goals and nine assists in 56 career NHL games the past two seasons.
Schroeder had 22 goals and 51 assists in 72 games in two seasons with the Gophers and was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association rookie of the year for Minnesota following the 2008-09 season after leading the NCAA in rookie scoring. He won a gold medal with the Team USA at the 2010 World Junior Championships.
