Wigglesworth in as England waits on Youngs injury

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:38 p.m. ET

LONDON (AP) England scrumhalf Ben Youngs suffered a season-ending torn ligament in his left knee and will miss the rest of the Six Nations.

Youngs tore the medial collateral ligament on Saturday against Italy and will be out for four months, the English Rugby Union said on Monday.

Youngs appeared to have his left leg trapped in a ruck when he was hurt in Rome.

In anticipation of bad news, England recalled scrumhalf Richard Wigglesworth for Youngs, ahead of the match against Wales on Saturday at Twickenham.

Wigglesworth was included in a 32-man squad for a match between teams who won their opening games of the Six Nations. England beat Italy 46-15, and Wales beat Scotland 34-7 in Cardiff. Wigglesworth will likely backup Danny Care.

No. 8 Nathan Hughes, who has been sidelined with a knee problem, will come into the England camp this week so his recovery can be assessed. He had been expected to miss England's first three games.
