River Valley didn’t have an answer for St. Croix Central’s ground game.

Not on their first carry, and not on their 71st carry.

Running backs Ryan Larson and Cole Refsnider led the way, pacing a group that ran the ball a whopping 71 times for 371 yards and seven touchdowns, as the Panthers cruised to a 49-28 win in the WIAA Division 4 state football championship Thursday at Camp Randall Stadium

The Panthers attempted just one pass (it was incomplete) and jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first half.

Larson gained 157 yards on 41 carries and racked up four touchdowns, while Refsnider finished with 15 carries for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

River Valley took to the air, as quarterback Elijah Alt threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns, including a 94-yard score to Derek Wedige.

It was the longest passing play in Division 4 championship game history.
