West Virginia is reigniting one of its regional rivalries.

Just not for awhile.

The Mountaineers will play a home-and-home in 2023 and 2024 against border rival Penn State. The meeting will be the first between the two former rivals since 1992.

West Virginia announced plans in July to play a two-game series beginning in 2021 against former rival Virginia Tech. AD Oliver Luck had mentioned several times during the summer that the Mountaineers hoped to sign a contract to play Penn State soon, too. Those hopes have become reality.

"The renewal of our West Virginia rivalry is a series our alumni and fans have wanted to see on our future schedules," Penn State AD Dave Joyner said in a release. "I am appreciative of the efforts of Oliver Luck in getting our two schools together again.

Penn State's Beaver Stadium will host the first game on Sept. 2, 2023, and West Virginia will host Penn State on Aug. 31, 2024.

Prior to Penn State joining the Big Ten in 1993, the two schools had met every year since 1947. Penn State leads the all-time series, 49-8-2.
