West Virginia holds off Eastern Kentucky 74-67
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Gary Browne led three West Virginia players in double-figures to negate Eastern Kentucky's 3-point shooting Sunday as the Mountaineers held off the Colonels 74-67.
Browne, a sophomore, scored a career-high 17 points, matching backcourt-mate Juwan Staten, and Deniz Kilicli added 10. Browne previously scored 15 at Gonzaga on March 15, 2012 in the NCAA tournament.
Browne's previous season best (13) came against Oklahoma, the team the Mountaineers (7-5) face Jan. 5, now that the nonconference portion of their season has ended. The Mountaineers and Sooners hooked up in a November tournament in a game that counted for neither in league standings.
EKU (10-3) shooter Glen Cosey finished with a game-high 21 points, shooting 5 of 10 from 3-point range.
Mike DiNunno and transfer Orlando Williams added 10 apiece. It was Williams' first game with the Colonels, having transferred from Miami (Ohio).
