KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) West Indies look to be heading for another heavy defeat to India after reaching 48-4 before heavy rain brought the fourth day's play to an early end in the second test Tuesday.
The weather took a turn for the worse during the lunch interval at Sabina Park, and threats of a storm forced umpires into abandoning play in the hosts' second innings.
Replying to India's first innings total of 500, West Indies began the day 304 runs behind and still trailed by 256 after a rain-affected morning session. The latest setbacks follow an innings defeat in the first test of the four-match series.
Tuesday's second innings started much like the first for the hosts, with Rajendra Chandrika falling early to paceman Ishant Sharma for 1. An hour-long rain delay followed with West Indies on 6-1.
When play resumed, Chandrika's opening partner Kraigg Brathwaite (23) fared slightly better, before being dismissed by Amit Mishra. Brathwaite looked solid before playing a loose shot that went straight up in the air to Lokesh Rahul.
Marlon Samuels fell moments later for a duck, before Darren Bravo (20) continued his dismal run of form and was dismissed off the final ball before lunch. Mohammed Shami took both wickets, and has 2-25.
The poor performance is the latest in a succession for the hosts, with the top order being unable to take advantage of their bowlers' efforts to limit the damage on the third day.
