Welcome to Chiefs camp: Dee Ford is in love with himself, and Andy Reid is the Midas man

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- When the dust settled, there was one clear winner of the Kansas City Chiefs' move-in Sunday.

Twitter. Easily. By technical knockout.

As quarterbacks and rookies and coaches/staff reported to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo., for the team's 2014 training camp, the one-liners were already in midseason form.

Take coach Andy Reid, when asked if he lost a bet after rolling up to the dorms with a shaved head:

But that wasn't even the best offering from the second-year Chiefs coach, who went off-script -- way off-script -- when asked about how coaches adapt to collective-bargaining rules regarding camp practices:

"That's what coaches do. You're like the Midas man. You're going to find the problems. You're going to change the muffler, man. Right? You have to be able to roll it and find the best way of doing it, and then you go."

Whatever you say, sarge.

Sunday's gold star, though, goes to first-round draft pick Dee Ford, after the outside linebacker walked into this exchange:

REPORTER: What's the key to surviving dorm life?

FORD: The key to surviving dorm life is, don't survive. Make it fun. You're not surviving if you're having fun.

REPORTER: Do you have any comfort items you need to get through camp?

FORD: Me? I'm different than your average rookie, though. Give me a keyboard and an iPad and I'm good, you know what I'm saying? I can have fun with anything ... it (doesn't) take much for me. I love myself."

(SCRIBE LAUGHTER)

REPORTER: What's your favorite part of yourself?

FORD: Favorite part? Where do I start, man? (Smiles)

FORD: I don't know, it's ... I don't ... can we talk about football? I don't want to talk about myself anymore.

You're gonna love him, folks.

Just not as much as the dude loves himself.

As for more serious news nuggets:

+ Tailback/slotback Joe McKnight had his knee scoped and might not be at full speed right out of the gates.

+ Rookie speedster De'Anthony Thomas says he spent more time recently going over pointers with running backs coach Eric Bieniemy than with wideouts coach David Culley. Read into that as you like.

+ Spring holdout Justin Houston is expected to show up Wednesday for full-squad reporting day, as he'll lose 2014 as an accrued contract year if he stays away any later than 30 days before the first regular-season NFL contest (Packers at Seahawks, Sept. 4).

+ Reid reiterated his love for the hospitality at Missouri Western, which switches to a renewable, year-by-year contract with the Chiefs after this summer.

+ This guy says his surgically repaired left knee is free, easy and painless:
