Throughout the offseason, Rangers officials and club observers alike have preached caution with any expectations surrounding free agent acquisition Brandon Webb as the former Cy Young winner attempts to return from a shoulder injury that limited him to one start in the past two seasons.

Webb, for his part, expresses no such reservations about his ability to contribute from Day One.

"I've made some dramatic strides," Webb said to The Dallas Morning News. "If anybody had been around me for the past month or so since I've been throwing, it's been awesome. I don't think they have to be too patient. I think I should be totally ready to go in spring training, jumping right in with the guys and just carrying on like a normal spring training for myself."

The Rangers would be thrilled if Webb does return to business as usual. When pitching a full big-league season, Webb has never had an ERA higher than 3.59 and has gone over 30 starts and 200 innings pitched in all but his rookie year, in which he was a mid-season call-up.

If Webb is as healthy as he says he is, Ranger fans could be forgetting about Cliff Lee in short order.
