WATCH: Historic Hollywood Park grandstands reduced to rubble
Out with the old ... in with the new.
Hollywood Park, which first opened its doors in 1938 and closed in December of 2013, is being torn down to potentially make way for Rams owner Stan Kroenke's proposed NFL stadium in Inglewood.
Kroenke, however, will have to beat out the Raiders and Chargers' shared stadium idea in Carson, Calif., if he hopes to pull the Rams out of St. Louis.
On Sunday morning, the historic grandstands at Hollywood Park were imploded.
Notable events from Hollywood Park's history included hosting the inaugural Breeders' Cup in 1984; the major upset of Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, who finished fourth in the Swaps Stakes in 1977; and Laffit Pincay Jr. surpassing Bill Shoemaker's all-time record for race wins by a jockey in 1999.
