Arizona sophomore pitcher Konner Wade has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, league commissioner announced on Monday.
Wade, a 6-foot-3 right-hander, turned in the best outing of his career against then-No. 2 Stanford last Saturday in Arizona’s 4-2, series-clinching victory at Hi Corbett Field. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native tossed a complete-game three-hitter and improved his season record to 4-0 with a 3.33 ERA.
Facing one of the Pac-12’s top offensive lineups, Wade carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before giving up three hits, which led to two runs – just one earned. From there he settled back into his dominating form, keeping the Cardinal hitless in the final three innings. He retired the final seven batters of the game in order, including striking out the side in order in the eighth inning.
Wade racked up seven strikeouts against only one walk. He has 52 strikeouts on the season, which leads the team and is tied for second in the Pac-12. Opponents are hitting .198 against him, the third lowest mark among conference pitchers.
Arizona (21-7, 7-2 Pac-12), which swept three games from Stanford over the weekend, moved up to No. 4 in the Baseball America Top 25 poll on Monday. The Wildcats are scheduled to play four road games this week, beginning with a non-conference game against Utah Valley on Wednesday before jumping back into conference play against Utah starting on Thursday.
