Vikings receiver Patterson day-to-day with foot injury
MANKATO, Minn. -- Cordarrelle Patterson is hard to miss at training camp. He was even easier to spot Friday with his multi-colored dreads hanging out of a bucket hat instead of a helmet.
Patterson, the electric second-year receiver and returner, missed practice as the Minnesota Vikings opened training camp at Minnesota State University on Friday. Patterson was held out and is considered day-to-day with a foot injury.
Minnesota placed three players on the physically unable to perform list -- cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, safety Andrew Sendejo and tight end Chase Ford -- earlier in the day. But coach Mike Zimmer didn't announce any injury to Patterson when he spoke with reporters following the team's morning walk-through.
Patterson, selected to the Pro Bowl as a rookie returner last year, didn't participate in the walk-through or the afternoon practice, staying confined to the sideline during drills.
Patterson was named a first-team All-Pro returner last season as he led the league with a 32.4-yard average on kickoff returns and scored two touchdowns, including an NFL record-setting 109-yard kickoff return.
In his second year out of Tennessee, Patterson should be a big part of new coordinator Norv Turner's offense. As a rookie, he was third on the team with 45 catches for 469 yards and four receiving touchdowns. He added 12 carries for 158 yards and three touchdowns.
