EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings added one cornerback in last week's draft, picking Florida State's Xavier Rhodes. Now they've added another veteran to the mix.
Minnesota signed cornerback Jacob Lacey, who's started 36 of his 54 career games in four seasons between the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions. The Vikings also officially announced the signing of defensive end Lawrence Jackson.
Lacey, 25, was undrafted coming out of Oklahoma State, but found a home with Indianapolis in 2009, where he played under Minnesota's defensive coordinator Alan Williams, who was the Colts' defensive backs coach at the time. Lacey played three seasons for Indianapolis, starting 27 games and tallying five interceptions.
Last season, Lacey started nine of his 11 game for Detroit, finishing with one interception, four pass deflections and 36 tackles.
The Vikings needed depth in its secondary, especially after releasing veteran Antoine Winfield in a salary-cap move in March. Minnesota tried to re-sign Winfield, but he agreed to a one-year deal with Seattle earlier this offseason.
Jackson, 27, also comes from the Lions, where he has been a reserve the past three seasons. A former first-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2008, Jackson has 19.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 69 career games.
