UTEP's Rotich wins steeplechase at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas-El Paso junior Anthony Rotich won the steeplechase at the Texas Relays on Thursday, finishing in 8 minutes, 38.68 seconds.

BYU senior Chase Dalton won the decathlon with 7,642 points. Arkansas' Kevin Lazas was second at 7,592, and defending NCAA champion Johannes Hock of Texas followed at 7,753.

Kansas junior Lindsay Vollmer won the heptathlon with 5,625 points, 15 ahead of Penn State's Brittney Howell. Vollmer had a 17-point lead entering the final event, the 800 meters, and the pair finished 0.15 seconds apart, with Vollmer holding onto her overall lead.

Florida's Brittney Harrell was third with 5,620 points.

Baylor won the women's 3,200 relay in 8:46.85, and Arkansas took the men's race in 7:24.12.

Florida's Kyle Strawn won the hammer with a toss of 218 feet, 4 inches.

Kansas' Casey Brown and Rice's Chris Brown shared the pole vault title after each cleared 18-0 1/2.

Olympian Leo Manzano won the 800 invitational in 1:47.43, breaking his own meet record.
