"We played five tough opponents in a row to finish the non-conference season," said New Mexico State head coach Darin Spence. "Because of that, I think we had fatigue set in with our team late in the second half. Now we have to wipe the slate clean and get ready for conference play this week."
The Aggies fell to 6-8 with the loss, while UTEP improved to 8-4 as the two-teams split the season series. The Aggies won the first matchup with an 80-75 overtime victory in El Paso on Nov. 17.
Sophomore guard Camila Rosen appears lost for the season after suffering a knee injury in the last home game versus Utah on Dec. 23. Senior guard Danisha Corbett, who also incurred a knee injury against the Utes, did not start for the second consecutive game this season but did see 11 minutes of action.
The Aggies open Western Athletic Conference play with two road games: At Hawaii on Thursday, Jan. 6, and San Jose State on Saturday, Jan. 8.
